Hidden spaces & faces

Remember their faces

Remember how they pace, back and forth

I see it all in their defiance

a reminder to reject shyness

How can you think it’s pious?

to do the soul searching

without putting the love into practice

We bury pain

Over and over again

Forgetting that old wounds resurface

My thoughts are jumbled

My heart, unsteady

When I forget their faces

their hopes and aspirations

Because who I am

To be afforded such a good life?
