These Flames that Devour
I found myself being hypnotized
By the flames, licking the base of the wick
And the cackle they make when an unseen space finds its way into the fiery wake
For the briefest of seconds, I forget how much fire can burn and sting
It makes you aware.
Aware that your armor is not strong enough
That your memories are not fresh enough
That your love is not deep enough
That your time is not long enough
but there’s one thing that I know is enough
And that’s me living this moment with you
and my destructive thoughts suddenly find peace.
